The City of Saint Paul offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Construction Project Manager (CPM) with excellent people skills to work with high-level city staff, elected officials, and private-sector professionals and contractors to maintain and improve more than 180 city facilities to better meet the service needs of our residents. CPM responsibilities include:

Performing advanced-level professional work in all aspects of centralized construction project planning and management to build new city facilities, and remodel, rehabilitate, and repair existing facilities; Utilizing advanced knowledge of design software, building industry practices and construction methods, including building codes and cost estimation, to direct small to large projects from conception to completion; and Managing projects by planning, facilitating, and leading meetings with city departments and outside agencies. The position is located within the Design and Construction Section of the Office of Financial Services which provides facility planning, pre-design, design, and project management services to city departments as an internal service group. The City encourages and will provide resources for professional development opportunities for this position.

Recent project work:

Construction of a new $11 million Fire Station No. 7, currently under construction Project planning and provider selection for a $17 million geothermal energy efficiency project at Como Zoo/Conservatory Installation of lighting HVAC systems in city libraries, fire stations, and select parks and recreation facilities under a $5 million energy program Project planning and design for a new Hamline Branch Library Demolition of a 60,000 square foot former public safety facility Commencement of a citywide master planning process for operations facilities Current and upcoming projects:

Major renovation of a vacant city building for Animal Control operations Construction of a new library and major renovation of two others New BAS and HVAC improvements to the Police headquarters Downtown skyway safety improvements $1.5 million of improvements to Police outdoor shooting range Office redesign for City Attorney and City Council office The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill Construction Project Manager (Construction Coordinator) positions as they become available in various departments within the City.

Qualifications

NOTE: Professional experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. A combination of education and experience must total nine years or more.

A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, interior design, urban planning, engineering, or related field of study and a minimum of five years of experience in managing commercial, residential and/or institutional construction projects.

OR

A Master’s degree in construction management, architecture, interior design, urban planning, engineering, or related field of study may be substituted for two years of experience in managing commercial and/or institutional construction projects.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
